Abstract: | The Stirling engine is a kind of reciprocating internal combustion engine. It converts heat into mechanical work and the motor has low vibration, emissions, and noise. The Stirling engine works with any external heat source such as biomass, solar energy, and industrial waste. It was studied some parameters affecting the performance of the engine. Among these parameters studied in this work is the study of the effect of hot source temperature, charge pressure, and engine speed to know the effect of these parameters on the engine’s performance, and which one has the most effect on the operation of the engine. The effect of variables on the performance of the STE-1008 Gamma Stirling engine was studied. The engine contains three types of heat exchangers: heater, cooler, and regenerator. The heater is made of 20 stainless steel tubes with an 8-millimeter internal circumference apiece. The cooler is a finned aluminum heat exchanger with 144 internal fins, each with a cross-sectional area of 1 mm by 10 mm. The regenerator is fitted with a diameter of 31 µm and a volumetric porosity of 90%. The parameters considered are the temp. of the hot source, charging pressure, and engine speed. Nitrogen was used as a working fluid. Results showed that Nitrogen at 800 °C with 2 bar charge pressure gives 630 W while air gives 570 W. |
